About This Coloring Page

The flag of the Dominican Republic consists of a large white cross that divides the flag into four equal rectangles. The top and bottom rectangles are blue, while the left and right rectangles are red. In the center of the white cross, there is a coat of arms. The flag's design is based on the flag of the Haitian Revolution, which was adopted by the Dominican Republic when it gained independence from Haiti in 1844. The blue and red colors are said to represent the ideals of liberty and independence, which were central to the Dominican Republic's struggle for freedom. The coat of arms in the center of the flag features a shield divided into four quarters. The top left quarter depicts a Bible and a cross, symbolizing the country's strong Catholic faith. The top right quarter shows a golden key, representing the country's position as the gateway to the Americas. The bottom left quarter displays a green palm branch, symbolizing victory, and the bottom right quarter features a blue ribbon with the national motto, ""Dios, Patria, Libertad"" (God, Fatherland, Liberty). Above the shield, there is a blue ribbon with the country's name, ""República Dominicana"" (Dominican Republic), and below the shield, there is another blue ribbon with the national motto. The shield is surrounded by six spears, three on each side, which represent the six original provinces of the Dominican Republic. Over the years, the flag of the Dominican Republic has undergone some modifications. In 1849, a small white cross was added to the center of the flag, and in 1908, the coat of arms was introduced. The current design, with the larger white cross and the coat of arms, was officially adopted on November 6, 1844, when the Dominican Republic declared its independence from Haiti. The flag of the Dominican Republic holds great significance for its people, representing their struggle for freedom and their national identity. It is proudly displayed on public buildings, schools, and during national holidays and events.
